A solar pumping system is more than a pump and an inverter. These are the parts that carry the water, connect the borehole to the surface and bring the array wiring together — and each one is settled by the installation it goes into.

Each part below has one place in a pumping system and one reason to be there. What that part has to be is decided by the installation it goes into.

Solar PV modules

Generates the DC power the system runs on. The array is sized around the pump duty and the site, and the modules are confirmed as part of the same selection as the pump and the inverter.

PV mounting structure

Holds the array at the angle and orientation the site calls for, on the ground or on a frame. It is part of the array design rather than a separate purchase.

PV combiner box

Sits between the array and the inverter. It gathers the array wiring into one point before the power reaches the inverter, so the array is connected in an orderly way instead of every run being taken separately to the inverter.

Fitted between the inverter and the pump where the cable run or the motor calls for it. It conditions the inverter output for the pump over the run it is installed in.

Connects the pump in the borehole to the inverter at the surface and travels the whole depth with the pump. It is the part that stays permanently under water.

Carries the water from the pump to the tank or the point of use, buried along the route or laid above ground. It is the part that has to hold the pressure the pump produces over that distance.

02 / What decides each part

The installation first.
The part afterwards.

Component selection is an outcome of the system selection, not a separate choice made on its own. These are the points that settle it.

  • The array and its mounting follow the pump duty and the site.
  • The array wiring and the combiner box follow the array design.
  • The cable follows the installation depth and the run from the borehole to the inverter.
  • The pipe follows the installation and the water it has to carry.
  • The output filter or reactor is fitted where the cable run or the motor calls for one.
  • The exact part, size and material are confirmed against the selected pump and the site.

Component questions are answered from the same details as the pump selection. Send what you have, and we say what is still missing.

Parts can be supplied with a matched system or as a supply enquiry of their own. Either way the answer comes back against your installation rather than from a generic list.

Can components be supplied on their own?

Yes. Parts can be supplied with a matched system or as a separate supply enquiry, and the same rule applies either way: the part is confirmed against the pump and the installation it is going into.

Are the components the same for every system?

No. The parts are confirmed against the selected system and the site. A different pump, a different array design or a different installation changes what is supplied with it.

How do I know which cable or pipe to use?

It follows the installation — the depth, the route and the water — and it is confirmed with the pump selection. Send the site details and the answer comes back as part of the configuration.
