Agricultural water delivery
Solar Irrigation
Pumping Solution
Match flow and pressure to the irrigation method, then match the pump, the inverter or controller and the PV array to the duty. Built for irrigation contractors, distributors and water supply project companies.
A solar irrigation system
The system
From the Source to the Emitter
An irrigation system is asked for a flow at a pressure, and the array carries that duty through the drive and the pump.
-
Solar PV array Generates DC power from sunlight.
-
HOBER solar pumping inverter / controller Controls pump operation and adapts to changing solar input. Control includes MPPT, soft start and soft stop, dry-run and level protection, system protection and optional remote monitoring where the model carries it.
-
Irrigation pump Lifts the water and holds the pressure the outlets need at the end of the line.
-
Irrigation delivery The mainline and its drip, sprinkler or surface outlets.
The pump models, their figures and their curves are published with the range. The pump is matched into the system as a whole, together with the drive and the array.
Engineering challenge
Area Alone Is Not Enough
An irrigation system is asked for a flow at a pressure, and both follow from the method rather than from the area.
An irrigation system cannot be read on the area alone. The hectares do not decide the pump: the method the water is applied by, the flow and the pressure the emitter or the sprinkler needs at the end of the line, the elevation the water is lifted through and the loss the pipeline adds decide the duty point — and the pump, the drive and the array are matched to that. A pump chosen on area alone is a pump chosen without the project.
- Irrigation method Drip, sprinkler or surface?
- Required flow How much water does the field need?
- Required pressure What pressure does the outlet need at the end of the line?
- Elevation difference How far is the lift from the source to the highest outlet?
- Pipeline length and diameter How long is the mainline, and what is its diameter?
- Operating hours How many hours a day does the field need water?
Not sure about total head?
The pipe friction loss calculator works out total dynamic head from the static head, the pipe friction loss and the fittings loss.
Project data
Project Data We Need
The figures the pump, the drive and the array are matched on, and where each one is read.
The field
- Irrigation method drip, sprinkler or surface
- Crop and area what is grown and over what area
- Daily water demand m³/day
- Operating hours h/day, and the hours of the day the water is wanted
The duty
- Required flow m³/h
- Required pressure bar or m at the outlet
- Elevation difference m from the source to the highest outlet
- Pipeline length and diameter m and mm, mainline and laterals
The source and the supply
- Water source borehole, open water, reservoir or tank
- Source figures the well or suction figures, where the source is a borehole or open water
- Power source solar only, solar + grid, or solar + generator
- Pump already on site an existing pump to keep, or a new selection
System matching
From Project Data to System Matching
HOBER reads the method, the flow and the pressure against the range and matches the pump, the drive and the array to them.
- Project data
- HOBER matching
- The system
Example
Example project data
- Flow
- 30 m³/h
- Required pressure
- 3 bar
- Elevation difference
- 12 m
- Irrigation method
- Drip
The system the data resolves to
- Irrigation pump
- Solar pumping inverter / controller
- PV configuration
- System protection
The figures are an illustrative example of how a project is read, not a product claim: the method, the flow and the pressure decide the pump.
Product data
Need to select a pump, or see the models?
The models, the technical specifications and the performance curves are published series by series. The online selection narrows the range from the duty point you enter, so an irrigation project can be read against the pumps that fit it before anything is asked for.

Applications
Where Irrigation Systems Are Used
-
Field irrigation from a solar pumping system
Water delivered along the line, across the field it waters.
-
The array serving an irrigation site
The array that carries the pumping duty.
-
Water storage for irrigation
Water held between the pumping hours and the hours the field is watered.
-
An array beside a cultivated field

Support
System Matching Support Before Installation
The pump is only one part of a reliable irrigation pumping system.
HOBER works on the system rather than the pump alone, from the project data to commissioning.
